Rev. Kathy Giske

Most people are surprised to learn that I was born in Egypt because I don’t look Middle Eastern. Actually I am an Australian/Greek who is comfortable in many cultural settings. I was raised speaking five languages and assumed that to be the norm for most people. Meanwhile, God had a plan to use my unique background for His kingdom purposes.

My passion for foreign cultures and languages led me to pursue a career with the Australian diplomatic service. In my early 20’s I was posted with the Australian Embassy in Athens, Greece. Through this work I began to understand how nations functioned as we engaged in trade relations with several Middle Eastern nations. While living in Greece, I found myself longing to know God in a deeper way. God met me by revealing His presence and love through Jesus Christ. From that moment I knew I needed to follow Jesus wherever He would lead. The journey since has been incredible, to say the least.

In 1972 Vanguard University in California offered me a scholarship and I resigned my diplomatic post to pursue theological studies in the United States. Two years later the Billy Graham Organization recruited me to serve as an interpreter at the Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization (LCWE) in Switzerland. I was honored to meet with and work with Dr. Graham and with many mission statesmen from around the world. Soon I began to make the connection between my former diplomatic role and serving as a representative of the Kingdom of God.

So began my initiation into the world of global mission that took me to over 60 nations to serve at four world congresses and in leadership positions with LCWE, World Vision International, World Concern and Issachar. Through these organizations, I served as Christ’s ambassador helping to build networks and partnerships that brought hope and transformations to many communities and nations around the world. In 1996 Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship invited me to join their team. Today, as I serve with this dynamic ministry, I look back and see how God weaves every detail in the tapestry of our lives to fulfill His purposes.

My husband Steve and I live in Seattle, Washington and are members of University Presbyterian Church
